The Beauty Of Truth - by bruce potter

DATELESS IN CHRISTIAN-VILLE

August 28th 2006 06:36
So i'm a church-goer and am pretty involve with church life. That's besides the point. The point is... ...

NO ONE SEEMS TO BE IN THE DATING SCENE AT CHURCH!! What is up with that?

I mean seriously, hardly anyone is dating anyone at all. Dating as a whole seems to be like an unspoken thing in church. Everyone seems to be avoiding the topic of dating and relationships. Why is that so? You would expect that, with the kind of principles and values the church teaches, the church should be one of the best places in setting a safe and healthy environment for true, genuine relationships to grow.

Maybe its the whole "commitment" thing that everyone is afraid of. What are your views??

There have been some comments in our church that expectations of potential partners are excruciatingly high and unreasonable.
Some of our young people have announced that they do not wish to get married! It's all too demanding, and life is easier when single.
Many are affected by general community fear of commitment
Those who can and do make the commitment while young (in 20s) are very mature.
There also is a great rift between young and older persons in the church and the young therefore do not gain the wisdom of their seniors, and therefore lack confidence. I feel churches need to take a lead in this area.

To tell you the truth, I've been wondering about this very thing lately! It seems like its a taboo thing to date in the church especially when preachers talk about people coming to church to find a mate, mostly with negative connotations. So...I wonder, how in the world am I going to meet a christian man? Flirting seems like it would be off limits because you might get labeled as the girl looking for a man. I don't know what to do personally. I'm like...is it okay to flirt with a guy from church? How are we Christians supposed to meet and get together outside of the whole internet thing?...I for one would rather meet in person than do the whole online thing. Guys in the world are far more flirty and forward than the guys I've come across in church. And to tell the truth, I really have never been approached by a guy in the church and I've been going for most of my life. I don't know....
